BE AN ARCHAEOLOGIST FOR A DAY!

Students will have an opportunity to work with a former Archaeologist while studying how archaeologists work. With partners, they will choose a Native American Culture to research. They will then design a scene from that culture by creating artifacts out of clay and other materials to bury as an archaeological site. They will then pass their site to another group while getting another group’s burial site.  Using transect lines, they will systematically excavate the site, trying to determine the archaeological significance of the scene and excavated artifacts.

CREATE A TERRARIUM ZOO

Students will either work with a partner or alone to study a zoo animal of their choice by researching their behavior, adaptations, and facts. With this knowledge, they will develop signs and posters about their animal. After researching the animal’s habitat, they will design and create a terrarium for their animal to display at our classroom zoo. Students will be able to take home their terrarium habitat with a miniature zoo animal.

NEWTON’S LAWS, AERODYNAMICS CARS, AND ROLLER COASTERS!

Come and have fun with physics by using science inquiry to create aerodynamic cars. We will study Newton’s Laws and test out our cars to see who can go the farthest distance. The second half of the day students will learn about Newton’s Laws relate to roller coasters and then create our own marble roller coaster.

Friday 4/24

EARTH DAY IS EVERY DAY!

Celebrate Earth’s Birthday by learning, investigating and playing games to understand our ecology. We will investigate forest ecological concepts such as tree function, growth, and diversity. We will dissect an owl pellet to understand the food chain. We will collect pond invertebrates and terrestrial invertebrates to understand more about our ecosystem’s health and their world. Additionally, we will play games to illustrate ecological concepts of diversity, food chain, and predator-prey relationships. Finally, students will build a simple milk carton bird feeder they can bring home for our native songbird population.
